In this series of blog posts, we introduce and showcase the voice providers of our first generation of Mikoto Studio voicebanks. Who are they, how did they end up being the voice of a virtual singer, and many more questions are answered each week. In today’s showcase: the voice of Sayaka, Indonesian VTuber Amarynn.
For starters, please tell us a bit about yourself!
My name is Amarynn (YouTube, Twitter) and I am a VTuber from Indonesia. I do free talk, gaming, and music content on YouTube. As for my relationship with singing synthesis, I like listening to a lot of Vocaloid and UTAUloid songs. A random fun fact…uh, I like to sleep a lot!
Please tell us something about your character!
For Mikoto Studio, I voice the character Sayaka. She is an astronaut that believes (it’s true btw) that the moon is made of cheese! She is a little clumsy and slow (has a processing speed of 1 word/second) and I have a feeling she likes stars and the galaxy. She! has! space buns!! And hair vents!!! She has stars in her eyes!!!! I’m so excited about Sayaka all the time, I love her ; w;
How did you end up at ExpressiveLabs?
A friend recommended me and I was reached out to by Layetri (ExpressiveLabs founder, lead developer). I was asked if I wanted to provide my voice to a voice library to develop a new singing voice synthesis application, and I was definitely interested. I told the team that I am comfortable singing in English, Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia, and Mandarin! After that, I provided the voice recordings to train Sayaka’s model. Yay!
How were you involved with the character design process?
They pretty much already had an idea of what Sayaka would look like. I was very pleased with the first design already, but I also gave my input on how I felt that the outfit and hairstyle could look even better. Funnily enough, the colors they had already picked are similar to Amarynn’s color scheme (I love it). Her overall patterns are very Amarynn too, and that made me feel like I was connected to this Sayaka character right away. (For the 999th time, I love Sayaka)
What are your thoughts on Sayaka’s first original song, Deadbeats in Space?
I love love LOVE Sayaka’s demo song! Sayaka sounds so dreamy and light, like she’s really in space, and it portrays her so well. I’m extremely happy that we get to show everyone what we have been working on. Please look forward to more demos from us! (you WILL be looking forward, right!?)
