Creating the future of music technology. That's ExpressiveLabs.

Build the Future of Singing Synthesis with us

We’re building Mikoto Studio, a new singing synthesizer and a love letter to UTAU. Our mission is to make it accessible to everyone, from aspiring bedroom producers to legendary soundtrack composers. We’re launching our crowdfunding campaign on April 1st, and we want you to be a part of it.

The future speaks UTAU

No matter how you look at it, UTAU is iconic. For nearly two decades, it’s been the backbone of the indie vocal synth community. It gave us voices we fell in love with and characters we adore, and brought together a community that lasts.
But even the stuff of legends isn’t perfect. The original user interface hasn’t aged well. The setup process is a relic of a different time. And for every producer who falls in love with UTAU, ten more bounce off before they ever write a single note.

Mikoto Studio is a new singing synthesizer that builds on the foundation that UTAU laid down. We took the people, the technology, and the boundless creativity and shaped it into a product that’s ready for the future. Think of it as a companion, not a replacement. Your existing voicebanks are at home here. The open, creative spirit that defines this community? That’s the point.
What’s different is the experience. We’re stripping away the friction without touching the soul. Clean interface, no more system locale changes, no more googling “where to double click between buttons utau“. Just you, a voice, and all the tools you need to make the music you want to make.

Singing synthesis for Everyone

We created Mikoto Studio from a genuine belief that every maker should have the tools to create. We are taking that belief and putting it in your hands, no matter your ability, no matter your skills. It’s our goal to make every single user feel considered and heard – not just on paper, but human to human. It doesn’t make a difference whether you’re new here or you’ve been here for a decade, we welcome you aboard.

Why a crowdfund?

We know the UTAU community grew up on free software. There’s something magical about it, a community of creators building tools for the love of it, sharing voices simply because they want to hear them sing. We’re not here to erase that spirit. We’re here to give it a sustainable future.

Building software takes time, resources and actual humans writing actual code. The people behind Mikoto Studio are developers and creative individuals who believe this scene deserves a tool that is both powerful and approachable. We’re a small team, not a corporation with endless runway. We have the basics down, but in order to develop Mikoto to its full potential we need your help.

We are launching this campaign to allow us to finish development properly. No rushed launch, no half-baked software – just the thing we promised. We want to build something that lasts, to support Mikoto Studio for years. To keep adding features, improving workflows and growing with the community.

UTAU proved the scene could exist on passion alone. We’re here to prove it can thrive.

Join us on our journey

Maybe you’ve been in the community since the very beginning. You remember the early days, the clunky interfaces, the sheer excitement of hearing that first sound after hours upon hours of troubleshooting.
Maybe you’re new. You heard a cover song that gave you chills. You saw a character design that awakened something in you. You’ve always wanted to try making your own music but seeing the setup guides and the system requirements became the obstacles between you and that first note. Mikoto is here to help.
Maybe you’re somewhere in between. Curious, creative, looking for a new way to make music.

Wherever you’re coming from, we want you here.

Check out the campaign tiers. Grab a voicebank if one speaks to you. Share our page with a friend who’s always been curious. Drop a link in your Discord server. Every bit helps.

The software is nearly ready. The voicebanks are waiting. All we need is you.

Let’s build the future of singing synthesis – together.
